Phoenix Skyline to Get New Tallest Building
The Astra, a planned two-tower mixed-use development, is set to become the tallest building in Arizona and a new anchor for downtown Phoenix. The project reflects the city’s ongoing vertical growth and its shift towards a denser urban core.
Developed by Aspirant Development, the main tower will stand at 542 feet with 44 stories, surpassing the 483-foot Chase Tower. The project, designed by architecture firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz, will include approximately 700 residential units, a 250-room hotel, Class A office space, and ground-level retail.
Phoenix’s historically modest skyline for a city of its size is the result of several key factors. The city’s primary growth occurred after World War II, driven by the automobile and the availability of vast, inexpensive land, which encouraged horizontal sprawl rather than vertical density.
